Why Anthony Pettis Used MMA To Get Away From Street Violence
“Right now, Milwaukee’s murder rate is like up 180 percent. It’s one of our worst spring/summers and it hasn’t even started yet. Me growing up, I lost my dad at a young age. He was killed across the street from my house. Growing up with something like that happening to you, I had both options. I had my cousins on one side, ‘Let’s get these guys. Lets find out who it was.’ On the other side I had my mom, who I didn’t want to hurt again. That was a huge part in my decision to break out of that.”
Former UFC lightweight Anthony Pettis talked on SiriusXM UFC 188 pre-fight show last Saturday about his childhood and growing up in the dangerous streets of Milwaukee. Pettis says that the death of his father was what ultimately pushed him to stay off the streets.
