BEEF! Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem go at it on Twitter!
After what felt like months of Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos calling each other out in various interviews and on social media, we may finally get to see these two clash in the octagon.
The heavyweights were originally scheduled to square off a couple years ago at UFC 146. After Overeem knocked out Brock Lesnar, he earned himself a shot at the Junior Dos Santos, who was UFC’s heavyweight champion at the time. The Nevada State Athletic Commission popped Overeem for banned substances, however, and the bout never took place. Instead, Dos Santos disposed of Frank Mir in the main event of the card.
Ever since then, Overeem has been campaigning for another shot at the former heavyweight champion. Overeem is back to his winning ways with consecutive victories over Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve. Dos Santos also picked up another important win at the expense of Stipe Miocic this past May and if all the stars align, “The Reem” will be meeting “Cigano” in an eventual main card clash.
Overeem recently took to social media and questioned whether or not Dos Santos would ever take the fight. “Cigano” quickly responded, hinting that he wants USADA drug testing for their fight!
