Vitor Belfort has not stepped foot in the octagon since his victory over Dan Henderson in November 2013. Most fighters would be concerned about ring rust and suffering from anxiety after spending so long away from activity, but Belfort is excited and calm for his return.

Belfort is challenging UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman for the gold at “UFC 187” this weekend and told Combate that he is happy to fight again. “I’m not anxious, I’m happy,” Belfort said.

“You have to win everyday. Now it is time to control my weight, drink a lot of water and enjoy the moment. The fight was ready for all this time, but it will happen now. I can’t wait for it. I’m so happy”.

Belfort is arguably on the best run of his career after dominating the likes of Luke Rockhold, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping. Belfort was the first person to ever knock Hendo out and is hoping to shock the world again by handing Weidman his first loss.

“This is too good. It’s a part of my life, of my experience. I ask myself if I should be feeling something different, because everybody talks about how they always feel something and I just feel normal. Should I need to feel something? I guess that means I did a good job, my best, and dedicated myself for a year and a half, which I think is the most important. When you apply yourself, you leave nothing behind. Looking back, I think I applied myself very well for a year and a half, so now I’m enjoying the moment”.
