Benson Henderson: ‘Jon Jones Deserves To Fight Who He Wants’
Former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson is set to fight Rustam Khabilov this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 42, which takes place in Albuquerque, NM. During media day on Thursday Henderson was asked about the whole Jon Jones wanting to fight Daniel Cormier instead of Alexander Gustaffson situation. One would think that his response would be along the lines of ‘fight whoever the UFC gives you’, but instead Henderson offered up a different answer.
“I would say he deserves his right to fight who he wants next.”
This coming from a man who fights whoever is put in front of him. Henderson went on to comment on the backlash that Jones has gotten over not signing to fight Gustaffson right away.
“Jon Jones catches a lot of flack and all that stuff, but those people are idiots. You’re entitled to your opinion, but you can have consequences about your opinion as well.”
Even though Henderson has the whoever/whenever kind of attitude, he seems to have no issues with a fighter like Jones being able to choose who he takes on next.
“I don’t have a problem with that at all. I think that more than makes sense to me, personally.”
UFC Fight Night 42 goes down Saturday with Early Fight Pass prelims starting at 7:30 p.m. ET, FOX Sports 1 prelims starting at 8 p.m. ET and the main card on FOX Sports 1 at 10 p.m. ET.
