Bisping Wants a Shot at Rockhold or Souza After Fight with Leites
UFC middleweight Michael Bisping has always been on the cusp of greatness, but always seems to suffer a setback that keeps him from the ever-elusive shot at UFC gold. Now that he is set to headline UFC Fight Night 72 alongside Thales Leites, Bisping is looking to catapult himself into title contention once again.
“Obviously my last fight defined my position amongst the elite in the UFC,” said Bisping during a recent conference call. “If I get the job done against Thales, which, of course, I plan on doing that, with the greatest of respect, I think it certainly puts me in the discussion. Obviously Vitor is out of the window now.”
Bisping suffered a brutal loss at the hands (and heel) of Vitor Belfort in 2013. Bisping later found out that Belfort was on testosterone replacement therapy and has since dismissed the loss as a fluke. He has no desire to face the Brazilian again and he currently has his sights set on the middleweight elite.
“We’ve got Rockhold and Jacare, which are the next two guys in shot. Let’s say Luke gets the next shot. By the time he’s at that fight, I’ll have beaten Thales Leites,” Bisping said. “I’ll almost be there. That’s always been my dream, my goal, and it still is. While I’m still in the UFC, I’m always going to [want to] be the world champion.
Do you think Michael Bisping has what it takes to hang with the top of the middleweight division? Were his losses against Luke Rockhold and Vitor Belfort flukes? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
