For many years, World Series of Fighting (WSOF), has stood out as arguably the third-biggest MMA promotion in the world, behind the UFC and Bellator. The promotion has been home to recognizable names like Justin Gaethje, Marlon Moraes, David Branch, Jon Fitch, Jake Shields, Rousimar Palhares, Thiago Silva, Matt Hamill, Vinny Magalhaes, Blagoy Ivanov, Josh Copeland, Shawn Jordan, Lance Palmer, Yushin Okami, and others. And now, it is is no more. In a development that has seemed likely for some time, the promotion has closed its doors. It will now operate under new ownership and under a new name: The Professional Fighters League (PFL). The Washington Post explains:

Last night, World Series of Fighting returned to the state of New York with WSOF 35, a card highlighted by three title fights. In the main event of the evening, Bulgarian heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov attempted to defend his crown against dangerous UFC veteran Shawn Jordan. Ivanov made it look easy, dropping his experience foe less than two minutes into the fight, and polishing him off with a series of followup ground-strikes.

On New Years Eve, Las Vegas based promotion World Series of Fighting touched down in New York City for their biggest card to date. Emanating from The Theatre at Madison Square Garden, this card was highlighted by a whopping four title fights, and appearances from a handful of notable UFC veterans. The first of these title fights saw UFC veteran David Branch (20-3), who currently holds the WSOF light heavyweight and middleweight titles, attempt to defend the latter against Louis Taylor (13-4). The two-division champ did so with flying colors, finishing his foe off with a rear-naked choke in the fifth round.

Two burglars in California picked the wrong car to break into. Former Ultimate Fighter contestant and current World Series of Fighting bantamweight Cody Bollinger stopped two thieves who were attempting to break into his car, leaving one of the suspects with a black eye and both suspects in handcuffs.
UFC veteran diagnosed with clinical autism

MMA veteran John Howard never could have imagined that a routine neurological exam ahead of his WSOF debut at WSOF 31 on June 17th could have led him to receive a diagnosis which would lift a weight off his shoulders that he had been carrying since childhood. John ‘Doomsday’ Howard, found out that he is clinically autistic.

David Branch (18-3 MMA) successfully defended his World Series of Fighting middleweight title yesterday evening by defeating challenger Clifford Starks (13-3 MMA) via unanimous decision. Branch, who currently holds both the WSOF middleweight and light heavyweight titles, used effective grappling and top control to frustrate Starks in every round on route to the decision victory.
