UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, who is a frequent guest on UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, spoke about his past addiction with Oxycontin, a very powerful painkiller prescription.

Rogan, Schaub, Eddie Bravo, and Justin Milos, watched this past weekend’s “UFC Fight Night: Broomfield” card, doing commentary on the event, on Rogan’s podcast. That is when Schaub dropped the news that in 2011 he had been addicted to Oxycontin following reconstructive nose surgery after his win over Mirko Cro Cop.

“They put these brackets up there, stitched them in, so when it moved I had to chill like that for six weeks. It was the most pain I’ve ever been in. Popping painkillers everyday. Got addicted to them. Got addicted to them.”

Schaub revealed that even after the doctors removed the brackets, he continued taking the Oxycontin, until one of his good friends intervened.

“I was probably doing it hardcore for like four months. Then my best friend Joe Klopfenstein came over and took them from me. They just knew I was taking it non-stop.”

He went on to explain the withdrawal symptoms, and reveal that the signing of his fight with Antonio Nogueira, helped him in getting off the drug.

“Horrible! Super itchy. I was real irritable all the time, and then I got a fight with Nogueira. Perfect timing.”
