Brock Lesnar: There’s days I think I can get back into the Octagon

By Chris Taylor - August 16, 2013

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (5-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) admits he still thinks about his former career as a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Fighter, one that ended on a bit of a sour note.

Lesnar decided to hang up the UFC gloves after suffering a first-round TKO loss to former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.

The loss came after his second long and painful battle with diverticulitis (the disease cost him 12 inches of his colon in 2011).

During his time in the octagon, Lesnar scored high-profile victories over former UFC champions Randy Couture and Frank Mir, as well as defeating then interim champ Shane Carwin at UFC 116.

Brock recently spoke with L.A. Times about his MMA career and his future:

“I do miss it, but I’ve got to keep myself in check. What I went through the last few years was quite traumatic, not being able to fight like I wanted. I got back on the horse way too soon. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. That chapter in my life has come to closure, and I’m comfortable with it. I’ve never really sat and pondered about what I could’ve done differently or how things could’ve been, but I wasn’t the same guy. Now I feel great; there’s days I think I can get back into the Octagon and be the same human being I was before. But I’m on another chapter.”

That ‘chapter’ includes another succesful run in the WWE, the professional wrestling organization that recruited him out of college. Brock returns to the ring August 18 to take on CM Punk at WWE’s SummerSlam event.

At 36 years of age, Lesnar can probably wrestle for a few more years if he wishes, but he likely won’t be seen back inside the ocatgon, although stranger things have happened…
