Cejudo gets Dana White’s blessing to move back down to flyweight
At UFC on FOX 13 last night, Henry Cejudo made his highly anticipated UFC debut. During the bout, the Olympic wrestler surprised everyone when he opted to showcase his incredible striking, and not his elite level wrestling.
Following the unanimous decision win, Cejudo petitioned UFC President Dana White to allow him to return to flyweight, after being told he no longer could fight at flyweight after being unable to make the flyweight limit of 125 pounds in his UFC debut.
He spoke at the post-fight press conference:
“I’ve competed at the Olympics at 121 pounds. I feel real strong, even at 135. (But) I feel like I could be a huge force and change the whole weight class at 125. Bring ‘em. So Dana, I hope you can allow me – I can give you guys a practice cut. I know if Daniel Cormier can make 205 (after fighting at heavyweight), I can definitely make 125 pounds.”
Dana White responded, giving Cejudo his blessing to fight at flyweight.
“Absolutely. I trust you, man. You’re the professional. You say you’re going to come in at a weight, and it’s your job to make that weight. You can do it. I’m in.”
