Clay Guida: “I’ll be done fighting when I start to suck”
Clay Guida has alternated between losses and wins since his 2012 loss to Gray Maynard. Since then Guida has been on the receiving end of fan criticism for using his energy in fights to avoid exchanges with his opponents.
At the age of 33 it’s hard to ignore the question of ‘when is it time to hang them up?’
Guida spoke to MMAJunkie to give his thoughts on when he will be ready to retire:
“I haven’t put together that special run that’s got me into that title shot yet. I’ve been No. 1 contender, but you have to fight for that belt and that’s what I’m here to do. Everyone knows it, and I’m not going anywhere until it happens.”
“I don’t put a number on it. I don’t put a date, I don’t put a year on it because I think when people say, ‘Oh, I’m going to fight until I’m 39,’ they tend to stop early. I’ll be done fighting when I start to suck.”
Guida fights Thiago Tavares this Saturday at ‘UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson III.’
