Cormier on Gustafsson: ‘This is the worst I’ve ever been beat’
Daniel Cormier successfully defended his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship for the first time at “UFC 192”, but it wasn’t without taking some serious shots in the process. Alexander Gustafsson proved to be championship material by taking another champion to their limit on fight night when he dished out everything in his arsenal, from takedowns to vicious knees, but the champion stayed standing.
When the fight neared its end, fans were on their feet letting it be known that they appreciated the war they just saw. As the adrenaline dump settled in, however, you could see the price both fighter paid to be called the best in the world at what they do. In the end, Cormier’s hand was raised in victory but he had nothing but nice things to say about his challenger.
“Everything hurts. You have to be honest. You have to tell the truth: That guy beat me up tonight,” Cormier said on his fight with Gustafsson. “Alexander Gustafsson is an absolute stud,” Cormier said. “He’s one of the best fighters in the world. The sport needs guys like Alexander Gustafsson who can go out there and lay it all on the line against the best fighters in the world.”
Jon “Bones” Jones just found out he would not be serving jail time for allegedly causing a three car accident then fleeing the scene earlier in April. “Bones” was the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion at the time of the incident, but was stripped of the championship after he turned himself in to the police twenty-four hours after fleeing the scene. Cormier won the championship in his absence and could be facing Jones next. Do you think that is the fight to make, or should Jones take a tune-up fight before he fights for gold?
