Dana White plans to give GSP his space

Long time UFC welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre (25-2 MMA, 19-2 UFC), shocked the MMA world last week when he vacated his belt and announced his hiatus from the sport.

“Rush” did leave fans with a small glimmer of hope that he may one day return to the octagon, but UFC president Dana White says he won’t pester GSP about a return to fighting. Instead, the UFC boss plans on giving the French-Canadian plenty of time and space:

“I’ll leave him alone. “I’ll leave him alone and let him do his thing.”

“When a guy gets done fighting, I don’t bother the guys until it’s time to fight again. Let them go, let them disappear and do their thing. Then we contact them when it’s time to fight again.”

With GSP taking some time off from the sport of MMA, UFC officials announced that Johny Hendricks (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) will now meet Robbie Lawler (22-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) for the vacant welterweight title at UFC 171 on March.
