Dana White: Renan Barao is the closest thing we have to Floyd Mayweather

By Chris Taylor - September 23, 2013

UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao (31-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) continued his incredible 31-fight winning streak this past Saturday night at UFC 165 in Toronto, as he defeated former WEC title holder Eddie Wineland (20-9-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC) via second-round TKO in the evenings co-main event.

According to UFC President Dana White, Barao is about as close as you can get to undefeated boxing kingpin Floyd Mayweather, except for the whole $41 million-dollar payday of course.

In his words:

“The closest thing to [Mayweather] is this kid right here. He’s gone undefeated for eight years, Floyd has gone undefeated for 17 years. Do you know how hard it is to go eight years undefeated? Seriously, think about that. He doesn’t get enough credit for the record he has and what this guy is capable of doing, and it’s not just like he’s undefeated and he goes to decision and outpoints you. This dude [expletive] destroys you.”

Barao is expected to face injured 135-pound champ Dominick Cruz in a title-unification bout in early 2014. However, if “The Dominator” is not healthy enough to compete by that time, Cruz will be stripped of the title and Barao will face someone else.
