Daniel Cormier vs. Rashad Evans Set to Headline UFC 170

It was originally rumored that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones would defend his title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 170. However, Jones confirmed he was still suffering nagging injuries from his defense against Alexander Gustafsson. The UFC brass went hunting for another headline worthy main-event, and they found what they were looking for.

Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier has been announced as the main-event for UFC 170, which is set to take place on February 22nd.

Daniel Cormier inked a new deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and it is rumored to be an eight-fight deal. Cormier’s upcoming bout at UFC 170 will be his first venture into the light heavyweight division. Despite fighting at heavyweight his whole career, Cormier’s goal was always to fight in the 205 lb. weight class. Transitioning from his wrestling career, Cormier wanted to become disciplined as a mixed martial arts fighter and learn the proper techniques before he started worrying about cutting weight. The rumors stating that he is leaving the heavyweight division just so he does not have to fight his training partner Cain Velasquez are false.

Light Heavyweight veteran Rashad Evans is on a bit of a hot-streak as of late, defeating two of the UFC’s most popular fighters in a row. Evans walked out of the octagon victorious after a controversial decision against Dan Henderson at UFC 161. He would leave no room for arguments in his following bout as he absolutely dominated Chael Sonnen in a first round stoppage.

UFC 170 is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
