Dillashaw Supports Aldo’s Decision to Pull Out of UFC 189
“UFC 189: Aldo vs. McGregor” was expected to be one of the biggest events of the year. Brazilian and Irish fans from around the world were going to gather to watch the two finally square off. Then, Jose Aldo suffered a rib injury that forced him out of the main-event.
Instead of collecting the biggest payday of his career, Aldo was admonished by the fans for pulling out. TJ Dillashaw, however, not only feels bad for the position that Aldo was put in but supports the decision he made.
“I feel bad for him. That was going to be Aldo’s biggest payday to date,” Dillashaw told MMA Junkie. “Defending your belt, that’s putting a lot on the line and having something that’s going to affect you that much isn’t worth it. It’s not like you got a bruised hand or something small like that, this controls you entire body.”
TJ Dillashaw suffered a similar injury leading into his fight with Renan Barao at UFC 186. The champion suffered a fractured rib that forced him out of the fight, and he says he wouldn’t have been able to fight with it.
“It was definitely impossible to fight through the injury,” Dillashaw admitted. “Mine was a fracture, so they wouldn’t even let me fight because it was too dangerous. You can’t even sneeze, cough, laugh, and even watching a funny movie is not a great idea. Getting out of bed hurts. If you can’t even get out of bed, how the heck are you supposed to go and fight another man, especially for a world title?”
Dillashaw has his sights set on Barao again and they will meet in the main event of UFC on FOX 16. Who do you have winning the fight? Share your prediction in the comment section below!
