Eddie Alvarez says McGregor’s move to lightweight is “convenient”
While Eddie Alvarez may only have two UFC fights, ahead of his ‘UFC FN: Boston’ scrap against Anthony Pettis on Sunday, he believes that there’s something ‘convenient’ about Conor McGregor’s timing to move up to lightweight.
After his 13 second KO win over Jose Aldo at UFC 194, it was revealed that McGregor would go up to lightweight to fight Rafael Dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 197 in March rather than defend the featherweight championship.
Alvarez spoke to MMAJunkie to discuss McGregor’s future at lightweight:
“I’ve been in the game a long time, I understand what the game’s about; (McGregor’s) done a great job with what he’s doing and he’s getting everything he deserves,” Alvarez said. “What I do think is that Frankie Edgar will beat him, and it’s really convenient to leave the division right now when the only person left is Frankie Edgar. That’s what I think.”
