Faber and Cruz have been talking trash via text messages for years
Urijah Faber has been jockeying for a trilogy fight with Dominick Cruz since ‘The Dominator’ reclaimed his UFC bantamweight championship from TJ Dillashaw this past Sunday in Boston.
Following the bout, Faber spoke to media members to discuss a potential trilogy fight with Cruz, where he revealed that the pair have been exchanging heated words via text messages for years.
MMAJunkie has the transcription:
“Somehow, the UFC messed up and put us in this promotional thing where we had to do teamwork on a military exhibit. We were about to fight each other, and they put us on this PR thing, and for two days we actually got along pretty well and exchanged phone numbers in there. Throughout the years, we’ve talked (expletive). ‘Finally, let’s go, mother(expletive). You going to heal up?’ Once every year we talked some (expletive).”
While many are anxiously awaiting news on who Cruz will defend his title against, Faber said that there’s been no guarantees that he will get the next title shot, but that he knows the UFC will want to capitalize on a trilogy bout.
“I haven’t heard one guarantee, but they’re not dummies. There’s one guy who has beat Cruz, and we had a knockdown drag-out the second time. I put him on his butt on multiple occasions. It’s something we’ve been building up for a long time.”
