Faber on Rivera rematch: “I don’t really make those decisions”
In the main event of the preliminary card for UFC 181, Urijah Faber scored a submission win over Francisco Rivera. The choke came after an unintentional eye poke, that many are unfairly calling intentional.
After the bout Rivera revealed that he is planning to appeal the loss, and had already asked for a rematch.
Faber spoke to MMAJunkie Radio to discuss a potential rematch against Rivera.
“I don’t really make those decisions. I’ll do whatever the UFC wants, so if they want me to fight that fight again, I’d be OK with that.
“I feel like I did what I needed to do. I’ve been in a lot of situations where things didn’t go my way, like the (Renan) Barao fight. I feel like I was still defending myself (before the stoppage). So it’s unfortunate when you don’t get to put your full effort out there and things like that happened, but I don’t know what’s in the future.”
It’s unfortunate. I saw the eye-poke afterward, and that sucks for him. But I had to go after him and get the finish and the victory, and I got it done. It’s not always perfect.
“He’s just a really respectful guy, and he wasn’t complaining about anything. I apologized for the unintentional eye-poke because I didn’t really realize it happened. (I said) it was an honor to fight and one of those things that happened. We just gave each other credit for being warriors.”
