Georges St-Pierre: “There is a chance I will come back”

Georges St-Pierre hasn’t been gone for long but it seems the comeback speculation has already started. St-Pierre announced his “time off” from the sport after his close victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.

Since then he’s mostly stayed out the media, until now. St-Pierre made his first public appearance since vacating his title, when he took the field at a National Lacrosse League game on Saturday. He was there to support the Edmonton Rush as they went up against the Colorado Mammoth.

St-Pierre was asked by a fan if he was going to return to the UFC, here was his response:

“Because I’m an obsessive guy, I give myself a challenge which automatically will mean me working on it to obtain it. So right now I take a break. I don’t give myself any preference, you know. There is a chance I will come back.”

During the appearance the former UFC Welterweight Champion also answered some questions from the media.

Accordning to Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun, St-Pierre is enjoying his break from MMA:

“I just took a break. I spent Christmas time and New Years, with my family. That’s something I haven’t done for a long time. This is the first time I’ve really had nothing on my schedule. It was perfect. It was fun. It’s the first time it felt so good.”

“I’m 32 years old and this is the first time I have my Christmas with my family. I spent some time but I never really had free time, total free time like I did. It was time for me to do it. I’m very happy I did it and I don’t regret any of it.”

“So Christmas was incredible and now for 2014 we’ll see what’s going to happen. I have some projects in mind. I can’t talk about it, unfortunately.”

St-Pierre gave more hope to the idea of him returning to the sport when he was asked about doing appearances like the one he was at:

“I like to do this stuff once in a while. I like to meet my fans. But I’m not going to do this for the rest of my life. I’m an athlete.”
