GSP on Sage Northcutt: “He’s going to be great!”
When news broke that UFC sensation Sage “Super” Northcutt was heading north of the border to train with Georges St-Pierre and the team at Tristar, visions of a younger version of GSP capturing a lightweight championship crossed our minds.
Since then, Northcutt Sr. and son packed up and left the Montreal, Quebec facility and is left without a gym or upper echelon training partners just days before his fight at UFC 80.
GSP recently spoke on MMA Hour discussing Northcutt:
“He’s very good,” St-Pierre said. “He’s a very good athlete, great raw talent. Now with technique, and he’s surrounded himself with great people, his dad, and has a karate background. I think he’s going to be great. He’s got a great future, a good work ethic, he seems to have a lot of pride, he’s a very proud person, which is very important, that’s what makes you strong, I think he’s going to be a great fighter.”
“Sage Northcutt is Sage Northcutt,” St-Pierre continued. “Georges St-Pierre is Georges St-Pierre. I’m good at what I do, he’s good at what he does. We are different people.”
Obviously, no hard feelings from GSP regarding Northcutt leaving Tristar, but one can only imagine with the type of training and workout regimen that Northcutt would have received from Tristar could have only sped up his fight IQ and other variables to reach his ultimate goal.
What are your thoughts on GSP’s comments?
