Here’s The Controversial Scorecard for Cormier/Gustafsson
Fans were on their feet when Daniel Cormier’s first attempt at defending the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship came to an end at “UFC 192”. Both Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson proved to be championship material, but only one fighter could walk out with the gold slung over their shoulder.
Cormier relied on his bread and butter of wrestling to secure the unanimous decision victory, but it wasn’t without some controversy. Gustafsson actually out-wrestled the olympian in the second round and landed a solid knee in the third to gain momentum in the middle of the fight. The fourth and fifth rounds were up for grabs and the judges thought more than just the last ten minutes of action was up for grabs, according to their odd scorecards:
The only rounds the judges 100% agreed upon was one, two, and five. Do you think the judges got this right? Should it have been a split decision victory, or was Cormier almost robbed? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
