‘I Need to Beat Dos Santos and Arlovski for Closure’

Pending a successful championship run, Fabricio Werdum could go down as the greatest heavyweight in mixed martial arts history. He has already handily defeated the likes of Fedor Emelianenko and Cain Velasquez, but he has suffered losses against the likes of Junior dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski.

Werdum wants to go on a series of rematches for his next championship defenses in order for him to get some closure.

“Now, I want those rematches to have some king of closure,” Werdum told MMAFighting. “I’ve done a lot for the sport. Those wins over Fedor, ‘Minotauro’ and Velasquez will forever be in the history of the sport. They say I’m the most feared man on the planet [laughs], but I don’t believe that.”

It wouldn’t be out of the question to label him as one of the most feared heavyweights on the planet. While no heavyweight in the UFC would turn down a fight because they are afraid of him, they would sure as hell want to avoid his improved striking and grappling skills on the mat.

“I would like to fight Arlovski because it was a close fight, a split decision, an ugly fight that nobody liked, and I think I won,” Werdum said. Werdum is referring to his split decision loss to Andrei Arlovski from 2007 at UFC 70. Since then, both fighters have witnessed a resurgence in their careers that led them back to the octagon.

“Arlovski next might be a good idea. After that, ‘Cigano’,” Werdum continued. “But I take step by step. The next step is Arlovski, and then ‘Cigano’. I fought ‘Minotauro’ again, did well and won, and now it’s the rematch with Arlovski. ‘Cigano’ would be cool. But I got to focus on Arlovski first because he’s a former UFC champion and this fight will sell well.”
