‘I’ve Never Seen Jon Jones This Focused…’
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones made headlines last Friday, when UFC officials announced that “Bones” had been formally reinstated by the organization.
Shortly after the news broke, Jones took to his personal Facebook page to address his fans with the following message:
“I am grateful for the opportunity to resume my career and I am excited to show how much I’ve grown as a person outside of the octagon. It took me losing almost everything I had worked for to realize how much I had. I am blessed and humbled by the continued support of the MMA community and I can’t thank my fans enough for their unwavering support through my ups and downs. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life and my career and let me assure you, the best is yet to come.”
Jones has yet to be booked with a return date to the octagon, but it is expected that he will rematch current UFC light heavyweight title holder Daniel Cormier sometime in early 2016.
Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa, was a recent guest on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour where he stated that he has never seen “Bones” as focused and determined as he is right now:
“The only word that can really describe Jon right now is ‘focused,'” Kawa said. “I’ve never seen him this focused. He’s super focused. He’s more focused than he’s ever been before. Everybody’s got their opinions. He did this, he did that, whatever. That’s all fine and dandy. He’s still the greatest fighter we’ve ever seen, right. I’m watching him through many different camps, and the coaches have told me how he does many different things through many different camps. This is the first time that he doesn’t have a fight scheduled, he’s in Albuquerque, and he’s actually training. Most of the time when he doesn’t have a fight, he doesn’t train at all. There’s no weightlifting, there’s no jiu-jitsu practice, there’s no boxing, there isn’t anything. So, this is the first time we can sit here, all of us, and say he’s actually putting in some work. And he’s really putting in some work.”
It sounds like the best version of Jon Jones as a fighter is yet to come, and that is a very scary thought. Do you think “Bones” will be able to finish “DC” this time around?
