Jake Shields: ‘Palhares is a dirty guy who likes hurting people’
Former UFC title challenger and current World Series of Fighting welterweight Jake Shields will fight for the title when he takes on Rousimar Palhares at WSOF 22, taking place next Saturday.
During the media conference call for the event Shields talked about his added motivation for fighting Palhares, because he is what Shields considers a ‘dirty fighter.’
“I don’t remember exactly what I said, but hey, Palhares is a guy I don’t really care for,” he told BJPENN.COM, “He’s a dirty guy who likes hurting people. He doesn’t let go. He plays like he’s a nice guy after breaking someone’s leg when he doesn’t let go. He’s just a bad person, and it makes it fun to go out there and punch him.”
Then Palhares had this response when asked if other fighters calling him dirty bothered him at all.
“It doesn’t really bug me,” Palhares said to BJPENN.COM via a translator, “Everybody’s good at jiu-jitsu and I know that I have to have tight positions to submit great fighters, so it doesn’t really bug me at all. It used to, but it doesn’t really bug me anymore.”
