UFC 185: Pettis vs Dos Anjos

The new womens strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk not only proved to the world that her striking was as good as advertised, but also showcased her impressive takedown defense when she put a beating on Carla Esparza in the co-main event of UFC 185.

The Poland native used her crisp and accurate punches to stifle the former champion, who desperately shot for takedown after takedown, only to be denied again and again. Eventually, in the second round, with Esparza’s back on the cage, Jedrzejczyk began to tee off and eventually got the referee stoppage.

According to the new champ, who spoke after the event, the fight ended in the second round because, well, she wanted it to.

“I could have finished the fight in the first round, but I wanted to take it easy because it was a five-round fight. So I did it in the second round.”
