John Dodson vs. John Moraga 2 set for ‘UFC Fight Night 43’ in Albuquerque

UFC officials announced today that former flyweight title challengers John Dodson (15-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and John Moraga (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will square off at the upcoming ‘UFC Fight Night 43’ event in Albuquerque.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 14 winner, John Dodson, is coming off a “Knockout of the night” victory over Darrell Montague, which he earned at the UFC 166 event in Houston this past October. Prior to his victory over Montague, Dodson had challenged for the 125-pound title, but lost a unanimous decision to rating Flyweight Champ Demetrious Johnson.

Meanwhile, John Moraga earned his third career UFC victory in January by scoring a split-decision win over Dustin Ortiz at the “UFC Fight Night 35” event in Georgia. Like Dodson, Moraga’s previous effort came in the form of a Flyweight title fight opposite rating champion Demetrious Johnson in July of 2013. “Mighty Mouse” was able to submit Moraga in the fifth-round of their main event title-fight, this after catching the former Arizona Sun Devil in an armbar.

Their bout at ‘UFC Fight Night 43’ will mark the second time that Moraga and Dodson have met inside the cage. The pairs first meeting occurred in December of 2010 at the “Nemesis Fighting: MMA Global Invasion” event, where Dodson was able to earn a unanimous decision victory.

The ‘UFC Fight Night 43’ event takes place place June 7 live from the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque. The event is headlined by a lightweight fight featuring former champion Benson Henderson taking on Russian standout Rustam Khabilov.
