Lawler: Jones, Silva Failed Drug Tests A “Black Eye” For The Sport
The UFC has had a bit of a rough start to 2015 when it comes to drug test results. First it was revealed after his UFC 182 scrap against Daniel Cormier that UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones had failed a random pre-fight drug test for the main metabolite in cocaine.
Following that, it was revealed after UFC 183, that both Nick Diaz, and Anderson Silva failed drug tests.
Silva failed a pre-fight drug test for anabolic steroids, whereas Diaz failed a post-fight drug test for Marijuana again.
UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler spoke about the recent string of failed drug tests, and why it makes the sport of MMA look bad.
“People make mistakes, but it was definitely a black eye for the sport. Hopefully the commission, the UFC and all the fighters can help clean up the sport.”
“I’m bummed about it. It’s not good for the sport. Just hopefully people realize that not everyone is the same. Not everyone is doing those things.”
Lawler echoed Georges St. Pierre’s call for a cleaner sport, saying stricter drug tests would be, “Huge for the sport”.
“Let’s figure it out and clean it up.”
