Lombard calls for fight with GSP: ‘He’s got no chance with me standing’
Hector Lombard has been on a tear since dropping down to welterweight, going 2-0, with a KO win over Nate Marquardt, and most recently a decision win over Jake Shields.
Lombard, who is slated to fight Josh Burkman at UFC 182 on January 3rd 2015, is now calling for a fight against former welterweight kingpin Georges St. Pierre in Melbourne’s 50,000 seat Ethiad Stadium.
He spoke to Submission Radio:
“Lets suppose like if I can’t fight for the title for some reason, you know I really would love to [fight GSP]. I know that GSP is coming out of retirement so I really would love to have a big fight between me and GSP in Australia.”
“I can take a punch and my wrestling’s improving every day. So it’s going to be very hard for him to get me down and my stand up, he’s got no chance with me. That’s for sure.”
“I think that I’m the best at, you know at all in the 170lbs division at every area. Not only better than him [Burkman], I’m better than everyone up there, but that’s my opinion.”
There has been no word yet as to whether or not Georges St Pierre will even be returning to the UFC, but there has been much speculation that he will be returning.
It’s worth noting that Lombard is an Olympic Judo medalist, and boasts some of the heaviest hands in the UFC.
What do you think PENNation? Do you want to see these two warriors battle it out in Melbourne?
