McGregor Plans To Attend UFC 179, Says Poirier Is The Last Step To A Title Shot

Conor McGregor has quickly become one of the top ranked UFC featherweights, and believes that a win over Dustin Poirier puts him undoubtedly in line for a title shot against the winner of Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes at UFC 179.

McGregor returned from a torn ACL to defeat Diego Brandao via KO in the first round. McGregor then signed to fight Dustin Poirier at UFC 178.

McGregor spoke with MMAJunkie about the fight:

“I believe (the UFC) is going to be under a lot of pressure to give me that title shot. Really, I don’t think they want to deny me the title shot, anyway. I believe they want me to have that belt. So Sept. 27, I’ll go in there and handle my business and prove that I’m ready for the belt. It’s time.”

As far as UFC 179 goes, McGregor plans on not only having his eye close on the event, but also plans on being cageside at the event.

“I’m actually flying out to Brazil (smiles). How about that? I might stick a few banana peels around the ring.”
