McGregor Slams Division, Says It’s Full Of “Has-Beens”
Conor McGregor continued his tear of the featherweight division last night at UFC 178, extending his UFC record to 4-0, and his win streak to 12.
On the main card of the event, he TKO’d Dustin Poirier in the first round with a well placed hook behind the ear.
In the post-fight press conference, McGregor took shots at featherweight champion Jose Aldo, #1 contender Chad Mendes, and the rest of the division.
“The division seems to be full of rookies and has-beens,” McGregor said. “I’m just sitting here enjoying myself, collecting these checks on my way, eliminating each one.”
McGregor also stated that he would be attending UFC 179, which features a headlining bout between champion Jose Aldo, and Chad Mendes. When asked how he would fair against either man, ‘Notorious’ replied:
“I believe I will dismantle both of them. Chad is a 5-foot-6, overblown – he should be a 125er, but he’s gone past that limit now. Now he’s just a little small bodybuilder stuck in the 145-pound division, and he gets tired quick. He’s 5-foot-6 with a 65-inch reach. I have an eight-inch reach advantage on him. I tower over him. I would maul Chad.
“Jose is in this situation where he has got to a stage where he’s happy with his level. … I feel he’s in that pattern of deterioration. Again, another easy win.”
