Nelson Believes That Even With a Loss He Can Be Granted Title Shot

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson (18-7) will battle Cheick Kongo (18-7-2) tomorrow night at UFC 159 in Newark, New Jersey. Nelson will be looking for his third straight win and if things go his way, his third straight by knockout.

Even with a loss, however, Nelson believes that a title shot could still be around the corner (MMAWeekly.com):

“I could probably still lose and get a title shot,” Nelson stated. “I mean, Nick (Diaz) lost and got a title shot. It’s about what fights do you want to see.  The only reason Big Foot (Antonio Silva) is fighting is because we were like, ‘This guy over here, this big Demolition Man, Alistair Overeem is gonna be our next guy, blah, blah, blah.’ He’s supposed to get the next title shot and he gets knocked out.

Nelson goes on to say that besides wanting a title shot, he also wants to fight the best and would settle for either former UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos or Mark Hunt who fight on May 25th at UFC 160:

“I’ve fought the best guys in the world. I’d love to fight Cain, unless Big Foot wins, then I’ll fight Big Foot.  If Mark Hunt beats Junior, then I’ll fight Mark Hunt.  I’m game for a lot of different people. It’s just, it’s the UFC, so you never know.”

UFC 159 takes place on April 27th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and features a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen in the main event.
