Nick Diaz’s Lawyer Responds To The 100,000 Petition Signatures
On Wednesday the MMA community achieved something great by coming together to exceed the required goal of 100K signatures on the official White House petition for Nick Diaz.
The petition had until the 16th to get to 100K but after a late rally from MMA fans we were able to smash through the goal and gain even more than the required amount. So what does that mean now? Really no one knows for sure. The standard course is for the petition to be reviewed by White House Staff, than after that an official response should be given. Will it have any real effect on Diaz’s situation? Perhaps not directly, but even Diaz’s lawyer says that achieving the 100K signatures was certainly not for nothing.
Here’s what Lucas Middlebrook, Diaz’s lawyer, had to say about the achievement.
“Amazing. The White House response is anybody’s guess. The 100,000 does, however, prove that our defense prevailed in the court of public opinion, further highlighting the injustice of the entire proceeding.”
See, you did good guys.
Middlebrook is now waiting for the NSAC to produce a written decision, saying they’ve given Diaz a five years suspension, than he’ll be able to move forward with his appeal for judicial review.
Nick Diaz last saw action against Anderson Silva in a closely contested bout he lost by way of decision. Nick is a former Strikeforce champion, who for his part, has awed fans for years inside the cage.
The open cannabis user has failed drug tests three times over the course of his career, which gave the NSAC all the ammunition they needed to sentence him to the most lengthy suspension in our sport. It didn’t help that Nick refused to answer any questions by the NSAC, pleading the 5th amendment during his official suspension hearing, in Las Vegas.
Did you guys sign the petition and what do you think the response will be?
