Niklas Backstrom Explains Why He Doesn’t Want His Family At Fight Night 53
Niklas Backstrom is set to return to the Octagon at UFC Fight Night Stockholm this Saturday in his home country of Sweden.
Backstrom is teammates with Alexander Gustafsson, and was one of his teammates featured in the UFC’s mini documentary, which you can watch HERE.
He spoke to MMAJunkie about why he doesn’t like his family being at his fights.
“I don’t know, and I don’t want to know. If they’re coming, I don’t want them to tell me. I don’t like having my family there. I prefer them to stay home and wait for my call.”
“My father thinks it’s pretty cool, because he was kind of a hockey fighter, but my mom’s like every other mom,” he said. “She wouldn’t want me getting beaten up. My brothers, I was the reason they started watching MMA.”
“They probably will be too curious,” he said. “But I’m thinking about my mom. I don’t want her feeling like she has to watch, because it’s never fun seeing your child fighting. I can understand it’s very stressful for her.”
Backstrom is undefeated in his professional career, as well as his UFC career, going 8-0 as a pro, and 1-0 while with the UFC.
