NSAC Amends Complaint Against Sonnen, Faces $250,000 Fine

By BJPENN.COM News - July 8, 2014

Chael Sonnen retired last month following a failed drug test for drugs that helped him transition off TRT. After Sonnen’s retirement it was announced that he had failed another drug test prior to the one that was announced.

There was an NSAC hearing for several fighters, including Wanderlei Silva, during which Sonnen was suspended until a formal hearing, which is normal procedure. MMAJunkie.com received a copy of the complaint and reports that the NSAC has amended their complaints to include the other failed drug test, which could ultimately end up costing Sonnen $250,000. Chael will also have to pass a drug test should he apply for a fighters license again.

After failing the first drug test, Sonnen said that he would use quotes from the former head of the NSAC, Keith Kizer, to make his appeal, showing that Kizer agreed there was a difference between using banned substances in competition versus out of competition. Please keep in mind there is a difference between an illegal and a banned substance.

MMAJunkie.com also tried to reach Sonnen as well as his reps to see if Sonnen would appeal the complaint, which he has 20 days to do, however they could not be reached.
