Ronda Rousey wins ESPN's "Best Female Athlete Ever" Award
BJPENN.COM News - September 14, 2015
Only six fights into her Ultimate Fighting Championship career, Ronda Rousey has solidified herself as the most dominant athlete the sport has to offer. Fighters and naysayers can come along and try to challenge that, but the fact remains that nobody has destroyed their competition quite like Rousey has. After her victory at UFC 190 against Bethe Correia, Rousey was catapulted into mainstream status and has been receiving praise for being a female role model— and rightfully so. In a day and age where reality television rules the world, younger women looking to get into the world of sports need somebody like Rousey to show them that it’s okay to work hard and be as invested in a sport as the guys.

'Uncle Dana told me Tate didn't get title fight because of Caraway'
BJPENN.COM News - September 14, 2015
Ronda Rousey and the UFC shocked the world when they revealed the champion’s next challenger would be Holly Holm, instead of top contender Miesha Tate. “Cupcake” was coming fresh off a one-sided unanimous decision win against Jessica Eye that supposedly earned her the shot at bantamweight gold. Rousey pulled the rug out from under the perennial challenger when she announced Holm as her opponent on Good Morning America and Tate felt like she was “shot in the heart”. She found out through text message from her friends, rather than a phone call from her boss. UFC’s Aljamain Sterling claims to have some insider information on why Tate didn’t get the title shot, and it may catch you off guard:

Cyborg: Rousey is using Mayweather for publicity like she did with me
BJPENN.COM News - September 14, 2015
Ronda Rousey is, without a doubt, the biggest star the Ultimate Fighting Championship has to offer. However, it wasn’t long ago that the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion was relatively unknown with only a cult following in Strikeforce. “Rowdy” made her transition into the octagon and became the first woman champion in company history and soon, all eyes were on her. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos believes she can take some credit for helping boost Rousey out of obscurity before she made the transition to the UFC, though. “Cyborg” believes that Rousey likes to talk trash about fighters just to make it to the next level of fame, much like she is doing with Floyd Mayweather’s name now.

There comes a point in every athlete’s career where they realize they are at the tail end of their run. The business of mixed martial arts is an interesting one as a fighter’s urge to compete will always be there— retired or not. Brad “One Punch” Pickett is a fighter at heart, but is planting the seeds so he can retire from in-cage competition while still being involved in the fight game. Being a trainer and coach for young mixed martial artists is a satisfying gig for most retired veterans, but Pickett will be going down a different route. The England native has decided to start running his own promotion, “Rise of Champions”. The organization’s first card runs on October 27 in Romford, North London.
