Prior to UFC 194 talks of UFC President Dana White saying Frankie Edgar would be next in line for Conor McGregor if McGregor fights at featherweight again, Edgar is still sitting in the dark. While a young superstar Conor McGregor had a spectacular 2015 winning UFC gold, it was the man he beat that made Forbes Sports 30 under 30. Jose Aldo at age 29 was the only MMA fighter of the 30 individuals in the sports category that was listed as one the “600 brightest young entrepreneurs, breakout talents and change agents in 20 different sectors.”

Jan. 2 saw an amazing night of fights with UFC 195 taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A welterweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit had everyone standing at the end of five rounds in a “Fight of the Year” candidate just two days into the new year. Fortunately for both Lawler and Condit, they were not given the most severe medical suspensions from the event.

Former challenger for the UFC light heavyweight title, Alexander Gustafsson congratulated Robbie Lawler on successfully defending his welterweight championship on Facebook. Gustafsson also went on to empathize with Carlos Condit in losing a tough and very close decision. Gustafsson posted a photo of Lawler and Condit posing right before the decision was announced and captioned it saying, “Congrats to Champ Robbie Lawler. Carlos, I know the feeling, been there, twice! Amazing fight from both warriors.”

UFC President Dana White was ever so confident that Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey would meet in an immediate rematch after Holm shocked the world at UFC 193. However, nearly two months after Rousey was knocked out by Holm, White does not sound so confident in the bout shortly after Holm signed a multiyear contract extension with the UFC. “I honestly don’t know what we’re going to do,” White told The Los Angeles Times in a Monday telephone conversation.
