The main card kicked off with a bantamweight fight between Alex Caceres and Francisco Rivera. Both fighters came in on two fight losing streaks, and both men had lost to Urijah Faber in one of those two losses (just a fun fact).

A heavyweight bout finished up tonight’s prelim fights, as Derrick Lewis (12-3 MMA) took on Shawn Jordan (17-6 MMA). “The Black Beast” came out swinging to start the fight, chasing Shawn Jordan across the octagon while throwing some huge right hands. Lewis pressured Jordan against the cage but Shawn was able to scramble free. Jordan scored a trip to take the fight to the ground, but Lewis bounced back to his feet almost immediately. Big spinning kick attempted by Lewis but Jordan was able to move out of the way. “The Black Beast” missed with a huge right hand, which allowed Jordan to duck under and score a takedown. Jordan was able to land some decent elbows from the top, before Lewis eventually scrambled back to his feet. Final minute and both men are throwing bombs. Jordan was able to land another big right hand and used that momentum to get another takedown on Lewis. Shawn landed a few solid elbows from side control to close out Round 1.

Welterweights Omari Akhmedov (14-2 MMA) and Brian Ebersole (51-16-1 MMA) squared off in the fifth bout of the evening. Akhmedov quickly took the center of the cage and landed a big kick to the body of Ebersole. Akhmedov continued to utilize his kicks, battering the legs of his veteran welterweight opponent. Akhmedov fired off a right hand and followed that up with another solid kick to the body. Ebersole began circling but Akhmedov continued the pressure by throwing some big right hands. Ebersole shot in for a takedown, but Akhmedov easily shrugged him off. Akhmedov continued to land leg kicks and followed those up with some stiff rights. Ebersole didn’t seem to have an answer, as Akhmedov continued to tee off on him to end Round 1.

The third fight of the evening featured a lightweight bout between Justin Edwards (8-4 MMA) and Joe Proctor (10-3 MMA). Proctor started off with some early leg kicks. Edwards moved forward with punches and pushed Proctor into the clinch. Proctor attempted some knees from the clinch, but Edwards pulled away and fired off some shots. Proctor landed a solid right hand, but Edwards absorbed it, moved forward and landed a takedown. Proctor immediately returned to his feet and began working his jab. Proctor landed a solid combination and returned to working Edwards legs. Edwards landed a spinning kick as round one came to an end.

The second fight of the evening featured the middleweights, as Ricardo Abreu (5-0 MMA) took on Jake Collier (8-2 MMA). Collier landed a couple of good jabs to begin round 1, and Abreu returned fire with some solid left hooks of his own. Both men were happy to stand and trade early on, but it was Abreu who was landing the harder strikes. Collier began to use his range and started to mix in some good kicks. Abreu tried to shoot in for the takedown but Collier shrugged him off with ease. The fighters clinched and the horn sounded to end round 1.
