While MMA may still be illegal in New York, that hasn’t stopped the UFC from booking the Madison Square Garden for April 23rd for a tentative Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship. UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta spoke to the New York Post to discuss the status of the event, as well as what the UFC needs to do in order to make the highly anticipated fight happen in New York.

Fighter pay will always be a hot topic. UFC veteran heavyweight Matt Mitrione recently spoke on the Three Amigos Podcast and talked about his own issues with the pay scale set by the UFC (transcribed by MMA Mania): “I don’t necessarily agree that it’s going to have to force a trickle down to everybody else because they — the UFC — don’t care. They’re going to say, ‘Yeah, Conor’s making $100 million, so you’re going to take 10 [thousand] and 10 and you’re going to like it, or your just not going to fight and that’s all there is to it. Like Paige [VanZant] and Sage [Northcutt], they get paid more than I do. I’ve had 13 fights in the UFC — should’ve been 14 with [Stefan] Struve — and Paige and Sage both get paid more than I do. That’s ridiculous.”

Conor McGregor told Jose Aldo right after knocking him out at UFC 194 that he was a great champion, and they could have another go at it. Referee Big John McCarthy confirmed that McGregor told Aldo they could do it again if he wanted. However, McGregor’s tune has changed as he has stated he is weighing his options on defending his title against Frankie Edgar or going to fight for the lightweight belt. UFC veteran Matt “The Immortal” Brown spoke on the latest Great MMA Debate podcast and is in favor of Jose Aldo getting the immediate rematch, even though he admits Frankie Edgar has earned his shot (transcribed by Fox Sports):

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been living it up since his 13-second knockout win over Jose Aldo at UFC 194. McGregor said in a post-fight press conference that he would be enjoying Christmas after the fight as many times fighters with scheduled bouts near the holidays get the celebrations taken away from them having to stick to training and dieting.

We’ve all heard of Gingerbread cookies, but on Christmas the UFC unveiled the ‘McCookie’ which can be seen sporting Conor McGregor’s chest tattoo and Irish fight trunks. McGregor is of course coming off a 13 second KO win over Jose Aldo at UFC 194 that saw him capture the UFC featherweight championship.

While a date hasn’t been set for Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier’s highly anticipated rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship, both men have been hard at work training for the occasion. Jones has been bulking up for the fight, putting on tons of muscle with a lifting regimen, while DC has been working on his finishing move according to this picture.

No, they did not, and apparently it looks like they don’t care. The shirt that pissed off Irish fans is back up for sale on their website as of this writing. With the multiple fails that have come out with Reebok’s attempt to break into the MMA market with their partnership with the UFC, one of the biggest blunders that they made was with their Ireland graphic t-shirt. It nearly killed Reebok’s deal with Conor McGregor’s team at SBG Ireland because it pissed off coach John Kavanagh so much. You have to wonder what Kavanagh is thinking now.

The draw of Ronda Rousey leading up to her bout with Holly Holm at UFC 193 ballooned up to a level that was unimaginable for a women’s fight, let alone a UFC fight and broke records on fight night.
