https://youtu.be/H0pFKh-L8vM Former K1 kickboxing champ and Pride fighter Alistair Overeem stood toe to toe with former champ Junior “Cigano” dos Santos last night and delivered devastating results as the co-main event.   Cigano was vocal about his fight against Overeem prior to the event and wasn’t excited about it then, while it makes a lot of sense now.

https://youtu.be/rbOV_mVK2uI The lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos lit up Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone last night headlining at FOX 17.   The Kings MMA fighter applied his usual pressure but a left hook and knee to the body followed by a flurry of unanswered punches  forced Herb Dean to end the contest giving dos Anjos his first successful title defense.

Last night fight fans saw an action packed card from Orlando Florida topped off by Rafael Dos Anjos’ quick 1st round TKO win over Donald Cerrone to retain the UFC lightweight championship. Following the bout UFC exec Dave Sholler hosted the post-fight press conference, where the post-fight bonuses were announced.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (17-4 MMA) squared off with former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem (40-14 MMA) in the co-main event of ‘UFC on FOX 17’ in Orlando, Florida. Round one begins and the big men touch gloves. Both fighters start slow and try to find their range. Leg kick misses for dos Santos. Overeem lands a body kick. “JDS” throws a head kick but it’s blocked. Overeem misses with a straight left. Knee from Overeem followed by a good shot from Junior. Good straight left for Overeem and he follows up with a leg kick. Another good left lands for “The Reem”. Junior’s nose is bleeding. He attempts a spinning back fist that misses to close out round one.

Former UFC title challenger Nate Diaz (18-10 MMA) squared off with Michael Johnson (16-10 MMA) on the main card of ‘UFC on FOX 17’ in Orlando, Florida. Diaz starts out by popping the jab. Johnson starts off with some leg kicks. Johnson throws a combination by Nate avoids all the punches. Good leg kicks from both fighters. Johnson lands another. Nate responds with a stiff jab. He’s talking to Johnson now. Nate is getting loose and landing his jab. Big shots from Diaz, who is now laughing at Johnson. Good body shot lands for “The Menace”. Diaz lands the jab again. Johnson returns fire with a leg kick and another. Good kick to the body lands for Johnson. Another good jab from Diaz and both men are throwing down. Good left and a right land for Diaz.

A women’s strawweight tilt between Randa Markos (5-3 MMA) and Karolina Kowalkiewicz (8-0 MMA) kicked off the UFC on FOX 17 main card in Orlando, Florida. Markos gets things started by throwing a huge right that just misses. Big shot lands for Karolina. Markos is trying to get inside but Karolina is showing some excellent footwork to stay on the outside. Markos is pushing forward but her punches aren’t finding a home. Decent combo lands for Karolina. Markos clinches up and presses Karolina against the cage in hopes of a takedown. Markos landed a good right hand just before the end of round one.

A key featherweight bout between Charles Oliveira (21-5 MMA) and Myles Jury (15-2 MMA) served as the main attraction for the UFC on FOX 17 preliminary fights in Orlando, Florida. Both men began trading leather right from the opening bell. Jury landed a decent combination but Oliveira was able to score a takedown and move immediately to half guard. “Da Bronx” quickly moves to the back of Jury and begins looking for a rear-naked choke. Jury scrambles to his feet but Oliveira locks in a guillotine choke. It’s deep and Jury has no choice but to tap-out.

A women’s bantamweight bout featuring Sarah Kaufman (17-4 MMA) taking on Valentina Shevchenko (10-1 MMA) took place on the UFC on FOX 17 prelims. Kaufman starts off by throwing a combination. After trading some shots, Shevchenko scores a takedown and begins working from full guard. Kaufman is able to sweep Valentina and get back to her feet. Another successful throw from Shevchenko and she winds up in full mount. Kaufman battles hard and is able to get back to the fence and return to her feet. Shevchenko puts Kaufman up against the fence and begins landing strikes from the clinch to close out round one.

A middleweight bout between Josh Samman (12-3 MMA) and Tamdan McCrory (14-3 MMA) took place on the UFC on FOX 17 prelims. Samman throws a leg kick to get things started but Tamdan grabs the leg and tries to shoot in for a takedown. Both fighters are working hard against the fence in the clinch position. Samman is able to score a trip and winds up in top position on McCrory. Samman is trying to land some ground and pound but McCrory uses an armbar to transition in to top position. The fighters scramble and Samman is back in top position. Back and forth ground battle with both men switching positions constantly. Round one would end with the fighters engaged in the clinch along the fence.

A lightweight bout between Nik Lentz (26-7-2 MMA) and Danny Castillo (17-10 MMA) took place during the UFC on FOX 17 prelims. Lentz opens the fight up with a knee to the body of Castillo. Nice left hand lands for Castillo but Lentz returns fire with a body kick. Lentz grabs a hold of a guillotine choke and drops down to try and finish off Danny. Castillo is able to fight off the submission attempt and winds up in top position. The fighters return to their feet and Lentz lands a head kick. Big right hand lands from Danny to close out round one.

A featherweight bout between Cole Miller (21-9 MMA) and Jim Alers (13-2 MMA) kicked off the UFC on FOX 17 prelims on FOX Sports 1. Alers lands an inside leg kick to get things started. Cole responds with a quick jab that lands flush. Another leg kick scores for Alers. Again Miller responds with a jab followed by a right hand. Good left hook lands for Alers. Both men seem happy to stand and trade. Big right hand from Alers. He follows that up with another left hook. Miller responds with a stiff jab. Good leg kick lands for Miller. Miller throws an axe-kick but misses. One minute to go and Miller lands a solid left hook. Alers tags Miller with a right hand and Miller responds with another jab to close out round one.
