UFC Fight Night 78 may be in the books, but there’s another event just around the corner! The premier fight company travels to South Korea this weekend for UFC Fight Night 79 with a kickoff time of 5:00 AM ET. For those of you who are planning to sleep in on your Saturday, you’ll want to avoid social media as there will surely be spoilers abound! The card is set to air exclusively on UFC Fight Pass and will feature a high-profile main event bout between Benson Henderson and Jorge Masvidal. Yoshihiro Akiyama will also be making his long awaited return to the octagon when he goes toe-to-toe with Alberto Mina in the second main card fight of the night. The outspoken Irishman has gone on record to let fans and likely the heads of the UFC know the worth of one Conor McGregor. “The Notorious” posted a photo to Instagram with the caption, “Leaving Ireland today for the West Coast. To unify my belt and spearhead the unprecedented $90-100million dollar UFC 194 event. This event along with UFC 189 putting me at close to $200million dollars in revenue generated for this company. All in less than 6months. I am not a company man. I am the company.”

Edmond Tarverdyan, coach of former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been a big target for the loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193. UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy spoke with 1300 The Zone to chime in on the advice and coaching of Tarverdyan in Rousey’s devastating loss (transcribed by bloody elbow): “You definitely have to adjust what you’re telling your fighter depending who they are. You have to know who they are. None of us know Ronda well enough to second guess what her coach was doing. Maybe he was doing the right thing? Maybe he was giving her the confidence she needed? Maybe she’s someone who needs to operate in confidence? That’s just ludicrous, to me, though.”

Anderson Silva has been forced to watch the action from the sidelines after getting busted by the NSAC for performance enhancing drugs after UFC 183. “The Spider’s” return to the octagon could rock the world of mixed martial arts, according to a report. UFC 197 takes place in Brazil at the HSBC Arena and could host a major main-event. According to Jornal Oglobo, a rematch between Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva is expected to be announced for UFC 197. The card takes place in March 2016.

Holly Holm shocked the world at “UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm” when she sent Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey crashing to the canvas in the second round of their championship fight. Time stood still as Rousey lay on her back, staring at the lights, before quickly resuming after Holm crashed her fist into Rousey’s face for good measure. The referee tore Holm off of Rousey, solidifying Holm’s spot at the top of the division. Before the fight started, not many fans gave Holm a chance. The narration of stars like Joe Rogan shifted the momentum of the fight in Rousey’s favor and with good reason; She truly was the most dominant woman in the world and could still remain the best on the planet. The fact of the matter is that Holm was better that night, and even Rogan thinks it’s good for the sport.

Kelvin Gastelum had been training for weeks to face fan-favorite Matt Brown in a welterweight matchup for the main-event of “UFC Fight Night 78”. The mixed martial arts gods struck again when Brown fell victim to injury and was forced to pull out of the main-event. Rather than scrap the fight altogether, Neil Magny threw his hat in the mix and offered to fight Gastelum on a moment’s notice. While Magny is receiving praise for offering to take the fight on short notice, Gastelum deserves some respect as well for having to change his gameplan from Brown’s unorthodox style to someone like Magny’s. The two battled for twenty five minutes before having their fight decided by the judges. In the end, it was Mangy who would have his hand raised in victory by way of split decision. “UFC Fight Night 78” is in the books and Reebok has shelled out their sponsorship money for the thirteen fight card. $130,000 was dispersed between twenty-six fighters with veterans Diego Sanchez and Scott Jorgensen topping the report. This is NOT a full payout report for the paychecks they earned for their fights in the octagon. This is an estimated payout report for their Reebok sponsorship alone. During the post-fight press conference, it was announced that Neil Magny, Kelvin Gastelum, Polo Reyes and Andre Fili would all receive an extra $50,000 for their performances on Saturday evening! Performance of the Night: Andre “Touchy” Fili The Team Alpha Male standout welcomed fans around the world on FS1 with a phenominal performance against Gabriel Benitez. Andre Fili needed just over three minutes to dispose of Benitez with brutal punches after knocking him loopy with a swift headkick. The quick performance not only earned him his payday, but an extra $50,000 in bonus cash.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s middleweight division is about to receive a major shakeup if all the stars align correctly. Anderson Silva’s return to the octagon may be against Vitor Belfort at UFC 197, according to a recent report. Belfort currently ranks in the top-five of the weight class and a loss to Silva could cause a major shakeup. Number two-contedner Ronadlo “Jacare” Souza could be next in line for a championship shot if he defeats Yoel Romero. “Jacare” wants to see Silva take another fight before squaring off with Belfort, however.
