UFC 193 Results: Ben Nguyen submits Ryan Benoit in the first round

A flyweight bout between Ryan Benoit (8-4 MMA) and Ben Nguyen (15-5 MMA) kicked off the UFC 193 Fight Pass Prelims in Australia. Nguyen was able to land an knee early on that sent Benoit crashing to the mat. Ben quickly moved in with punches from the top and ended up in the mount position. Benoit attempted to scramble but gave up his back. Nguyen dropped some more punches before eventually sinking in the rear-naked choke which forced Benoit to tap out.
Lombard next for Rory MacDonald

Rory MacDonald is coming off a brutal TKO loss to Robbie Lawler back at UFC 189 earlier this year, but is looking to get back in the Octagon sooner rather than later. UFC President Dana White spoke at a recent fan Q&A event in Melbourne Australia for UFC 193, where he revealed that MacDonald will fight Hector Lombard next.

Earlier this week Chael Sonnen revealed that his sources down in Brazil weren’t too confident that Jose Aldo would show up for his UFC 194 title unification bout with Conor McGregor next month. While Sonnen admitted that he didn’t want to start a rumor, and that he was merely passing on information from his contacts down in Brazil, the MMA community quickly started buzzing with the possibility of Aldo withdrawing from the bout.

Early Saturday morning news broke that Thiago Alves had been forced out of his ‘UFC Fight Night: Seoul’ main event bout with Benson Henderson as a result of a broken rib. The UFC and Henderson were both searching for an opponent to step in on short notice and fight on November 28th, and they have found their man according to MMAFighting!
White refutes rumors of staged Rousey-Holm scuffle

Yesterday at the UFC 193 weigh-ins Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm got into a brief scuffle that came as a result of Holm resting her fist on Rousey’s face during the staredown. UFC President Dana White separated the two before things got out of hand, and defused the situation, however he still believes he didn’t do his job. In addition, White shot down critics who stated that the scuffle was staged, and was used as a hype-tool to get more eyes on the already high profile event.
Alves out of 'UFC FN: Seoul' main-event bout vs. Henderson

Unfortunate news surfaced Saturday morning that Thiago Alves had suffered a broken rib and had been forced out of his ‘UFC Fight Night: Seoul’ main event bout against Benson Henderson on November 28th. According to MMAJunkie the UFC is currently searching for an opponent for Henderson in order to ‘save’ the main event. This news comes on the heels of Mirko Cro Cop withdrawing from his co-main event bout and subsequently retiring.

From movies to magazine covers, media reporters are like starving animals waiting to get fed an answer from Rousey just days ahead of her main event UFC 193 title defense against Holly Holm. It is a different tone for UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who defends her title against Valerie Letourneau in the co-main event. The media crowd is smaller and reporters are more placid with Jedrzejczyk, who says she is content in getting to show off her skills to the crowd that came focused on Rousey.
