Recently, when the NSAC handed Nick Diaz a 5-year suspension for a failed drug test for marijuana, the MMA community was outraged. The outrage spread, and suddenly many high-profile celebrities began backing Diaz and crying foul. A White House petition was started that earned the 100,000 required signatures thanks to the help of Cher, Wiz Khalifa, Gina Carano, and many others. Last week it was revealed that Diaz’s legal team was in settlement talks with the NSAC.

November 28th the UFC heads to Seoul, South Korea for UFC Fight Night 79. The UFC Fight Pass event will be headlined by a welterweight bout between ‘Smooth’ Benson Henderson and Thiago ‘The Pitbull’ Alves. According to MMAJunkie the preliminary card will begin at 1:45 a.m. PST, with the main card starting at 5 a.m. PST.

Since Conor McGregor called TJ Dillashaw a ‘snake in the grass’ on TUF 22 there has been much speculation of a McGregor vs. Dillashaw superfight. While McGregor is currently the interim champion at featherweight, which is only one weight division above bantamweight where Dillashaw reigns as king, he has plans to move up to lightweight in the near future.

Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira is currently coming off a loss to Max Holloway after suffering an esophagus tear, and while he may have a fight against Myles Jury coming up, that hasn’t stopped him from contemplating about a fight against UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor. The way Oliveira sees it, his Jiu-Jitsu would be the x-factor.

Earlier this week it was announced that Joanne Calderwood had been forced out of her UFC FN 80 headlining bout against Paige VanZant. It was also announced that Rose Namajunas had stepped in on short notice to fight VanZant in the main event.

Former Pride FC boss and current Rizin FF owner Nobuyuki Sakakibara has a wish list of fighters to be on his Dec. 31 show in Japan that would resemble the old days of PRIDE FC. “We had plans at the invitation of Wanderlei Silva and Mirko Cro Cop, but only Fedor was free from various linking contracts,” Sakakibara told cageside.ru. “The Japanese public is very curious to see Wanderlei Silva at our tournament, but he is bound by the obligations with UFC. If he is freed, then we’d definitely get in contact with him.”

With the lightweight division rumble of Khabib Nurmagomedov having to pull out of his fight with Tony Ferguson at the TUF 22 Finale, Ferguson has been booked with a new opponent for the Dec. 11 fight. Edson Barboza has stepped in to replace Nurmagomedov, according to an announcement from the UFC on Friday.

UFC veteran John Lineker is looking to build his name in the bantamweight division, and may be able to do that with a potential revenge match with Bryan Caraway. “I saw that Bryan Caraway wants to fight me,” Lineker wrote to MMA Junkie. “I also heard he’s friends with Francisco Rivera, so I guess he just wants to defend his buddy’s honor and have his back, and I’m absolutely fine with that.”

UFC fan favorite Joe Lauzon and his family have already beat the biggest opponent they could ever face. Lauzon’s son was diagnosed with cancer just days after he was born last year. Fortunately young Joey Lauzon has the fighting spirit like his dad and was able to overcome the illness. Lauzon is rallying for a donation to the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, which was held in September. Donations are still open to the cause, and Lauzon is making a push for the end.

Making weight is part of a fighter’s job, however with incidents of weight cuts sending people to the hospital and even a case of death have officials concerned. The Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) and Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) sent out invitations on Thursday for a weight-cutting and dehydration summit in Los Angeles on Dec. 17, held by the California State Athletic Commission. Part of the invitation said that it is “increasingly apparent that there are many dangerous and unhealthy practices associated with drastic weight cutting and dehydration.”

Ahead of UFC 193 on November 14th, many are counting UFC women’s strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau out of her title bout with champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk despite Letourneau being undefeated inside the Octagon. Even oddsmakers currently have Letourneau as a +900 favorite, meaning if you were to bet $100 on her and she were to win, you would make $900. In comparison, it would take betting $2,000 on Joanna Jedrzejczyk to potentially win $100.
