Masvidal Wants To Show Fake Fighters, Myspace & Facebook Fighters What's Up

BJPENN.COM News - July 25, 2013

“I want to show these make-believe fighters, these Myspace fighters, these Facebook fighters that there are some real fighters out here. There are some fighters who are scared about getting punched in the face. I’m not scared of getting punched in the face or getting tired in a fight. I like fighting. I’m not saying I like getting hit, but I sure don’t mind it. I’m going to show Michael Chiesa what time it is. He’s going to have to fight me. I saw one of his fights and I don’t know if he’s ready for all of this.”

Report: UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman Brings In Estimated 550,000 PPV Buys

BJPENN.COM News - July 25, 2013

When it comes to PPV buy rates we never really get disclosed true and accurate figures. However the one reliable and lone source for UFC pay-per-view figures has and always will be, Mr. Dave Meltzer. When people talk of buys, stating this PPV did this amount and this one did that, it is all based on his industry intelligence. The UFC never confirms figures, nor do the broadcasters, however, Meltzer’s time in the PPV business has gone on way before the UFC existed and therefore his estimates and contacts are widely considered as valid and on point.

Ian McCall: “I’ve Kind of Blown My UFC Career So Far”

BJPENN.COM News - July 25, 2013

“I’m in a much better place. You know, I’ve kind of blown my UFC career so far, but now it’s time to earn what’s rightfully mine. I’ve always been physically ready. Every fight, I’ve always been in shape. I’ve always been there. Just for me it’s a mental thing because I can be a head case and that really has been what’s gotten me down in the past, but I took personal steps in my personal life, new relationships, new whatever it may be to just change for the better. I really am just happier and in a much better place than I can really ever remember, which is nice… I haven’t earned (expletive). It’s probably where I deserve to be. Some people can look at it as a slap in the face not being on the main card, but who cares who I’ve fought and where I ‘ve been on previous cards? There are some big names that deserve to be there and I’m just ready to earn it. That’s my outlook on everything. I like earning things. I like being the good dog that gets petted. I want to earn this title shot and my first step to do that is by knocking this guy out. Training has always been the same. I always put in the work; I bust my butt. I’m just more mentally clear. Not to say that it’s completely someone else’s fault, of course, I put myself in every situation I am in. I was in a bad relationship and any man knows that can really drag you down. I was dropping the ball. I wasn’t focused. I had flashes of brilliance, but that’s all done now and I’m excited to move forward and prove myself. I was brought in as No. 1. I was supposed to be something special and I haven’t really shown that yet. He is going to go in there and try to knock my head off, that’s for sure. I’m in his country. I am the person standing across from him. He’s fought, what 30 almost 40 fights, probably. He knows what he’s doing. He’s a black belt in jiu-jitsu, so obviously he’s dangerous just like any opponent. You have to respect everybody. I have to go out there and just do work. I’ve got to stop having so much fun getting punched in the face and I’ve got to punch people back.” Top UFC flyweight, Ian McCall, tells all to Knockout Radio (via mmaweekly.com)

Anderson Silva: 'I lost focus, and now I will get better'

BJPENN.COM News - July 25, 2013

“I was so sad with myself, with my lack of control on the moment, that I said some words that weren’t nice. I said that I wouldn’t fight for the title. But after I signed the contract (earlier in the year), Dana told me that he would give [me a rematch if I had lost the belt]. I was so out of myself that I didn’t think about it… I lost my focus and made a technical mistake. It was one of the things that I left – the philosophy of the martial art –and it cost me the belt. I always fought with this felling of keeping the martial art philosophy and keeping the control of the situation – trying to be as calm as possible for me to keep the balance of the octagon, which is very hard to do… The criticism is valid, but I’m human. I made a technical mistake, and it was good for me and for the people around me to learn. I had to be able to know that focus is always needed. I lost focus, and now I will get better.” Sincere words from the former pound-for-pound king, Anderson Silva, who will look to reclaim his throne at the UFC’s year-end show against Chris Weidman.
