Jon Jones: 'War Gods made Anderson Silva pay for abusing his gifts'

BJPENN.COM News - July 9, 2013

“I think Anderson Silva is a magnificent fighter. I think that he has an extraordinary gift. I think he’s gotten to the point where he really believes in his gift and he’s comfortable with his gift. He abused his gift, disrespected his gift, by disrespecting his opponent. Martial arts is a sport that is traditionally based around honor and integrity. You treat people with respect. He somehow lost sight of that and paid the ultimate price for it. I’m not over the Anderson Silva hype train. He was fighting at a masterful level, he just got disrespectful and the War Gods made him pay for it. He’s still great in my book.” At today’s UFC 165 pre-fight press conference in Toronto, Jon Jones gave his take on the recent defeat of Anderson Silva.

Renzo Gracie: Weidman Was Fading, Silva Clowned Too Much

BJPENN.COM News - July 9, 2013

This kid [Weidman] is very dangerous, he was always very dangerous. Every time he fights, he wins. Early in the bout, when Chris was in control, he did everything he wanted, but couldn’t win, so Anderson gained great confidence. He thought it would be a walk in the park and then he began to play. And the boy [Weidman] really was fading, he was tired because he did everything (pushing the pace) during the first round. He had side control, he was attacking… and when Anderson saw him fading, he thought: “Now I’m gonna give a show”. The problem is that this sport is not the place for that. In this sport you have to win.

Mir Warned Not To Pull Guard Against Barnett

BJPENN.COM News - July 9, 2013

“This is not a case of who’s better and who’s worse, it’s a case of who’s on the up slope and who’s on the down slope and who’s in better shape. Frank’s on the way down and Josh is coming in, so he’s going to be on his way up. There’s a lot of pressure on Frank because he has to win. Being a great commentator as he is, being a big part of the UFC as he has been, a good poster child, win or lose he’ll still remain in the UFC because he’s still a great contender and a force to be reckoned with. He’s got a good ground game. Josh loves to rip people’s legs off and Frank prides himself on leg locks, also. This will be exciting. But all I can say, is be careful pulling guard.” In a recent interview with FightHub.TV, famed grappling coach, Erik Paulson discusses the upcoming heavyweight showdown years in the making, between two-former UFC heavyweight champions, Josh Barnett and Frank Mir.

BJPENN.COM News - July 8, 2013

“I’m not here to change other people’s opinion but I’ll tell you one thing: he did not give me the belt, he did not throw the fight. It was nothing like that. He was doing exactly what he does in all his fights. He had his hands down, he was trying to mentally defeat me, make me freeze, make me feel like I didn’t deserve to be in the ring with him.
