In the opening bout of the UFC 161 main card, heavyweight Shawn Jordan took out veteran Pat Barry in less than one minute. After connecting with a perfectly placed uppercut, Jordan proceeded to land a flurry of punches that ended the fight. However, Barry’s manager, Brian Butler, has said that it was an eye gouge that hurt Barry. One that the referee failed to notice.

UFC lightweight and featherweight contender Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (16-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC), has not had the best luck when it comes to UFC title shots. When “Showtime” first entered the promotion, he did so as the final lightweight champion in World Extreme Cagefighting history, a title Anthony earned by defeating current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

You rarely hear Dana White say he was wrong about something, but when it come’s to Jon Fitch that’s what just happened. “I wasn’t right. I cut Jon Fitch, I said he went 1-2-1 since 2011, and he’s on the downside of his career. He’s 35 years old, he hasn’t looked impressive at all, but I said he’ll be a world champion at the World Series of Fighting. I said he’ll go over there and win a title… Did I think Fitch was going to win? Yeah, I thought Fitch was going to win. I said Fitch is going to wrestle-(expletive) him for three rounds and win the fight.” Jon Fitch lost in his WSOF debut in just 41 seconds when fellow UFC veteran Josh Burkman choked him unconscious in the main event this past Friday.

In a true comeback story, Patrick Cote has gone from fighting for the UFC title, to fading into the regional circuit but now, after a resurgent UFC placement, he is back in the spotlight as TUF coach. It was announced last week that Patrick Cote would be responsible for the Canadian Team of fighters in the upcoming CA vs. Aus season and will coach opposite Kyle Noke.

“I think Vitor has been unjustly beat down for the TRT thing. You guys know how I feel about TRT. But he’s done everything the right way and been within the limits he’s supposed to be in. He will end up fighting in the States. He’s been fighting in Brazil because he does well in Brazil. There’s no conspiracy… First of all, have we ever done anything slimy, seriously, in 13 years? Like, ‘Let’s keep him in Brazil so nobody (tests him).’ I f**ing hate unfair people who cheat, putting guys in a position where they’re at a disadvantage. I hate that stuff. I want fights to happen evenly and for the best guy to win, and that’s why I was so pissed off about the TRT thing because I felt like people were cheating. People are getting jacked up during their training. One guy’s fighting on his natural abilities, the other guy’s getting jacked up, he recovers faster in training camp than the guy who’s natural, and then he gets his levels back down before the fight. That’s what was pissing me off.”

Last Friday UFC President Dana White went on a rant about the refereeing capabilities of Steve Mazzagatti. Mazzagatti was brought under fire after his missed stoppage in the Fitch vs. Burkman fight and White blasted him on social media calling for his termination.
