The man who many consider the most dominant champion in UFC history, Matt Hughes, retired today at the UFC on FOX 6 pre-fight press conference. UFC president Dana White announced the decision and let Matt Hughes, who was in attendance, say a few words before departing from the event.

Today the UFC is holding their traditional pre-fight media press conference to promote this weekends UFC on FOX 6 event. Today’s festivities are taking place from Chicago’s United Center and are closed to the public. “You didn’t hear Georges jump in and say, ‘I will not fight Rory MacDonald.’ The way I look at that situation is, Georges is the king, he’s got the belt, he’s known as one of the greatest welterweights ever. The guy is a superstar worldwide, makes a shit-load of money (and) he’s got major massive endorsements. Does Rory MacDonald want to be that guy? Or, does he want to say, ‘I like Georges. He’s a nice guy and I’ve trained with him and stuff, so, I’ll just sit around and never see how great I really am.'” During yesterday’s post-press conference media scrum, the UFC boss touched on a possible teammate vs teammate match up between Rory MacDonald and GSP.

“I like my opponent. That’s why I want to fight him. I don’t mean to say it like that, but he’s the number one guy to beat. That’s what you want. I’ve been wanting his spot. He’s got the spot. He’s the guy to beat. I like him just fine. I had no room to run my mouth and talk. I was promoting this fight. I got the fight I wanted. I can’t complain now. I like him just fine.” A strangely happy and positive Nick Diaz showed up to yesterday’s UFC 158 press conference and when asked about his thoughts on GSP he humbly admitted that he liked him.

“I could get excited about this type of fight, but it has been brought to my attention from my management and stuff that — and they check stuff out — that it shows Glover is really doing a lot of work on planning to take me down and holding me against the cage … stuff like that,” he claimed. “He’s going to pretend to stand up to just take me down, which is okay, I’m not surprised. I don’t know what’s going through his head… I just think that he’s a great ground fighter, so if he really wants to win this fight, why then trade with me at my strong point?” Jackson continued. “Why not get me at my weakest point, which is on the ground? That’s probably what he’s thinking, but he’s got a new thing coming because I’ve trained to take this fight anywhere. If he takes me down I’m getting right back up. I really feel like he’s going to have a hard time taking me down.” Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Rampage Jackson, tells the panel on FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” that he has intelligence that points to a game-plan by his upcoming opponent that includes an aggressive ground assault.

It wasn’t too long ago that Ronda Rousey used GSP’s looks as an example of the importance of marketing and using what you got to build your status. She stated…”I’m like, ‘Dude, if GSP was butt ugly, you wouldn’t want to know who he is so much. I think he lucked out a lot that he’s Canadian. I love Canadians. They are the coolest, nicest, most patriotic people, and they will support their countrymen no matter what, and I think that’s commendable, but if GSP wasn’t really good-looking, and really Canadian, he would be really unknown.”

“Nick and I were supposed to fight before and this was the big fight that people wanted to see. People wanted to see this fight more than me against any other guys. My other option was Johny Hendricks and Johny Hendricks, when I watched his fight against Josh Koscheck, according to me, I believe Josh Koscheck won that fight. I don’t want to fight a guy that lose to me that I beat. I think Nick Diaz is number one contender. He proved himself many times before and there is a story between us and it’s time to do it.” Johny Hendricks was infuriated to find out that the UFC opted to go with Nick Diaz as the next number one contender in the welterweight division and not himself.

“I have every intention of working with Cris Cyborg once her UFC contract is finalized. Right now we’re circling the drain, we’re waiting for the go ahead, but Cris she’s been in vacation in Brazil. If she was here in the United States, she and I already would have been working together. So she’ll be back, her contract will be signed hopefully soon, and as soon as she has a date and an opponent, then it’s game on, I will be working with Cris Cyborg.” …
