Coach Jackson Talks Jones vs. Sonnen: It's Not Wise To Get Jon Jones Mad | UFC NEWS

BJPENN.COM News - October 17, 2012

“I certainly don’t think it would be a wise strategy to get Jon really mad, but that’s something [Sonnen will] have to decide for himself. When you get into Jon’s face, that’s definitely when he performs the best, for sure. [Jones is] very articulate, and he gets right to the point. It’s just that trash-talking isn’t usually his thing, but Jon is going to be one of the greatest fighters ever. That’s my belief. He’s something special, and he’s going to be at the top of the heap… I always feel that everybody has a legitimate chance, because it’s MMA. It [may not be] very likely, but there is no such thing as 100 percent. You have to believe that, because you have to stay hungry. If you [think], ‘Well, I’m just going to beat this guy,’ that’s usually the time that you get beat yourself. My job is just to make sure that we can get those chances as much as we can into Jon’s favor. “Sonnen is a great fighter. I’ve been in the trenches against Sonnen several times and seen what he is capable of when he is on, and [I’ve seen] what he does well. I would never disrespect Sonnen by saying, ‘Jon will roll right over this guy. That’s a gimme fight.’ Those fights don’t exist. I’ve been a veteran of this sport for 20 years. I’ve done more corners than anybody, by far. I’ve seen examples of things that we should have 100-percent won — just walked over people — and it’s either a tough fight, or we lose.”

“I’m looking forward to that fight. Hopefully December we’re gonna get it, beginning of January. My side of the deal is signed. (I’m) just waiting on him while his shoulder is rehabbed. There’s been a lot of shit talking back and forth, so it’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be for the fans. I think it’s gonna be Fight of the Night for sure. He’s well-rounded. I think my wrestling is better than his but if we go to the ground he’s good on the ground, if we stay standing he’s good there. It’s gonna be a helluva fight. I’m packing a lunch. I’m ready for three rounds of hell. I’ll fight him on an undercard, I don’t care.” In an interview with MMAInterviews.tv, top lightweight fighter, Donald Cerrone discusses his upcoming battle with Anthony Pettis and the rivalry between the two standouts.

Anderson Silva: I Have No Intentions Of Fighting Weidman Because I Am Not A Fool | UFC NEWS

BJPENN.COM News - October 16, 2012

‘I think all athletes in this division will get their opportunity in going for the title. I don’t have any intention of fighting with him (Wiedman). I still think he has a lot to do in the UFC. I am in a comfortable position and I am no longer a child, I am 37 years old, he’s a kid that is starting. Obviously, this might happen, but, I have two fights on my contract and I think one of them will be with St. Pierre and I don’t really have an intention in fighting with him (Weidman) because I’m not a fool. I’m already an oldie, you know?’ The pound-for-pound king, Anderson Silva, talked about the potential middleweight title fight with Chris Weidman over the weekend at the UFC 153 post-fight press conference.

Frank Shamrock: When ZUFFA Bought Strikeforce It Felt Like My Baby Died | MMA NEWS

BJPENN.COM News - October 16, 2012

“Strikeforce was my baby. Scott [Coker] and I were sitting, like this, at a coffee shop. He was like, ‘Bro, I wanna do MMA.’ It was literally like that. And I go, ‘Wow, are you kidding me? Do you know hard it is? Do you know how much money it costs and the risk there is?’ And he and I were like bros, and we shook hands and said, ‘Let’s do it!’ I put everything into that company. I mean, literally every day of my life, I woke up, and I breathed Strikeforce. It was the first chance I saw, besides the monopoly of the UFC, to give MMA a shot — to give martial artists, who don’t know what MMA is about, a nice picture of it. Scott was a martial artist as a promoter, and he got it. He let me do my thing. I’m an entertainer. I’m a risk taker. When we sold, it was harder than you [Bas Rutten] breaking my face in our first fight. It was like everything ended that day. It was really tough.” Former UFC champion and current Strikeforce personality, Frank Shamrock, told Inside MMA’s Bas Rutten that he felt like his baby died when ZUFFA bought Strikeforce.

Patrick Cote Explains The Difficulties With Fighting Anderson Silva | UFC NEWS

BJPENN.COM News - October 16, 2012

“It’s very complicated to fight [Anderson Silva] because you never know what’s going to happen or what he’s going to do. We saw what he did Saturday night. Once again he did something new. He was staying against the fence and he was playing with Bonnar. Bonnar is no joke. Bonnar is a good fighter. He’s tough. He’s durable, and [Silva] was playing with him like a little kid… It’s hard to explain how to fight him, because if you go forward, he’s behind you. You try to hit him, and he’s not there. It’s very, very weird. It’s hard to hit him very clean with a very powerful shot. That’s why it’s hard to punch him very, very hard, because he’s moving so fast and he’s playing with the angles very, very well… You have to stay on your game plan. It’s very, very hard. I remember [against] me, he was playing with his hands. He was doing some crazy footwork, like the new Bruce Lee or something like that, but I would stay on my game plan, but that was very, very hard for me because I like to go forward. I like to push the pace, but at the time, I knew that was exactly what he wanted. I think he’s very, very confident about himself and he thinks that he’s unbeatable. He thinks that nobody can beat him, nobody can hurt him. Saturday night he received an elbow right in the face. He received a right cross right in his face and he was standing there and he was talking to his cornerman … . He was like, ‘All right, calm down, guys. I know what I’m doing.’ He’s so in control about his game, so in control in his head. That’s why I think he’s so dangerous.” Former middleweight title challenger Patrick “The Predator” Cote, tells sherdog.com that fighting Anderson Silva is confusing, weird and dangerous.

Benson Henderson Defends Words About Trying To Surpass Silva's UFC Records | UFC NEWS

BJPENN.COM News - October 16, 2012

“I think it’s good to have goals. For some reason I caught a lot of slack when I said I wanted to break Anderson Silva’s record and people were saying, ‘Oh, you’re ridiculous for thinking that. You can’t beat Anderson Silva’s record. You haven’t defended your belt one time. You’re silly. What are you talking like that for?” It’s like wow guys, you guys are really mad at me for having longterm goals? I want to be the best ever and one of my goals is to break Anderson’s record for title defenses. I’m sorry, I apologize if I offended you somehow, but I do have longterm goals, I like to set my goals high and then go out and get them done. If you want to be a Mundial champion, if you want to be a black belt and win the Pan-Ams, you want to win the worlds, win the Europeans, then you should bust your butt and train like it,” Henderson said. While a guest on MMA Weekly Radio, UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson went on the record to defend his comments pertaining to beating Anderson Silva’s win streak and title defense records so that he can be considered the greatest of all-time.
