Sorry, "Rumble" Johnson! Ryan Bader's sights are set on Daniel Cormier

BJPENN.COM News - October 19, 2015

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is looking to get on the path back to the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and his latest attempts at calling out Ryan Bader dug deep. It looks like Bader won’t be taking the bait, however, as “Darth’s” manager informed Fox Sports that they will be waiting it out for the return of champion Daniel Cormier. “We have the utmost respect for Anthony Johnson. We think he’s a tremendous talent and he’s got good representation,” David Martin, Bader’s manager, mentioned. “If I was advising Anthony, I’d be telling him to do the exact same thing— call out Ryan Bader. Why? Because that’s your fastest track to getting a title shot and that’s what these guys are in this sport for to be champion, and title shots don’t grow on trees.” Martin said.

"Cowboy" Cerrone: Dana White wouldn’t let me move to 170 pounds

BJPENN.COM News - October 19, 2015

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is one of the more popular fighters to ever step foot in the octagon and it’s with good reason; He is willing and able to take on a fight at a moment’s notice no matter who the caliber of opponent. When Khabib Nurmagomedov was forced to pull out of their high-profile fight at UFC 187, Cerrone could have easily asked for a shot at the title. Instead, “Cowboy” risked his top-contender status to face John Makdessi. One could imagine the fights we would have seen if Cerrone were permitted to take a fight in the welterweight division. That may have been able to take place in the early days of World Extreme Cagefighting, but UFC President Dana White and other UFC brass would not permit Cerrone to go up in weight.

Dustin Poirier feels like he has found his home at lightweight, and is feeling unstoppable. “The Diamond” spoke with Fox Sports recently on how his body is feeling at 155 pounds, and his outlook on the future. My last fight when I fought in New Orleans after the weight cut when I was down to 156 pounds, before weigh-ins, I was telling my corner men I was like ‘there’s no way I could cut another 10 pounds, it’s impossible’. It’s so crazy I even did it.

Now, WWE Superstar Sheamus is calling out UFC Interim Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor. Of course, this fight will never happen as Sheamus weighs in at 267 pounds, but it’s still entertaining to hear them talk trash about each other!

Jon "Bones" Jones: 'I was one of the worst wrestlers in my freshman year'

BJPENN.COM News - October 19, 2015

Jon “Bones” Jones has been on a path to redemption since his most recent run-in with the law back in April. After learning his actions would only earn him community service time and not jail-time, Jones was quick to take to social media to call out the champion and show the world that he is still in fight shape. The UFC had no option but to suspend and strip him when he turned himself in for fleeing the scene of a three-car wreck that he allegedly caused. In the meantime, Daniel Cormier became the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and has defeated Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson. While the light heavyweight division has been shaping up for a major 2016, Jones waits for Dana White’s phone call for a fight offer in between community service sessions.

Earlier this month, TJ Dillashaw announced that he would be jumping ship from Team Alpha Male to Elevation Fight Team in Denver, Colorado. The switch in teams caused tension between certain members of TAM and the UFC Bantamweight Champion, but it seems like issues have been addressed and members of both parties will, in fact, remain friends. “We’re all still going to be buddies with TJ,” Chad Mendes told Fighters Only. “He made the decision to leave and he believes that’s what he needs to be able to stay on top. And he’s a grown ass man so he can make his own choices. He’s going to be missed though. But we’ve all got to just remain focused and keep working towards our own goal: to become champions.”
