Quick Twitt | Thiago Alves Hints at August Return | UFC News
UFC welterweight, Thiago ‘Pitbull’ Alves hinted at a return to action today via his Twitter today after nearly a year off from fighting due to an injury which forced him out of a UFC 149 bout with Siyar Bahadurzada. When asked by a fan dubbed, @italianUFCfan, Alves responded with a month and a promise for whoever his next opponent may be. Whether or not Alves knows more about his next opponent than we do, is still unclear.
Here is the tweet via Alves official account:
Alves has gone 2-4 in his last six fights dating back to a 2009 title fight with welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre. In his most recent outing, a March bout with Martin Kampmann, Alves was caught late in the fight with a guillotine choke in a bout that he had controlled for its entirity leading up to the choke.
Alves knows a win is crucial to staying relevant at 170-pounds with a deep talent pool being showcased at the ‘welterweight tournament’ of events, UFC 158 where six top contenders square off on the main card. Also, with the integration of a talented Strikeforce welterweight roster, Alves will have to reestablish himself as one of the most dangerous men of the division.
