Ronda Rousey’s ex-manager: ‘I created a monster…’

While Ronda Rousey’s KO loss to Holly Holm on Saturday night was arguably one of the most memorable moments in MMA history, for Rousey’s former manager it was extremely bittersweet.

Darin Harvey was Rousey’s manager for several years, including during her rise to superstardom after joining the UFC. Rousey fired Harvey back in 2013, and the result was a lawsuit for $1 million for money he invested in helping Rousey, that he has yet to see re-payed.

He spoke to MMAJunkie to discuss Rousey’s loss, and why it was a bittersweet moment for him as he sat alone watching the fight at his house.

“It was kind of bittersweet. Part of me was elated and part of me was saddened. The part of me that was saddened was that once I was identified with representing the top female fighter in the world.”

Harvey did many things during the earlier stages of Rousey’s career to aid her in becoming a superstar and make her a household name.

“I created a monster. She believed she was as special as the press made her out to be.

“They give me absolutely no credit for the success of her career. She’s not a good person. You don’t forget where you came from.’’

Overall, Harvey saw the KO loss to Holm as a bittersweet moment:

“In a sense it was poetic justice because she’s wronged so many people that were there for her at the beginning of her career. To not be part of something I was instrumental in creating, has been very difficult.”
